Crocked midfielder eyes Arsenal comeback

Vince Grella could make his long-awaited injury comeback this weekend, when Blackburn Rovers play Arsenal on Saturday.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been out of action for the past seven months, after suffering from a recurring achilles problem, but is ready to return to first-team action.

Rovers currently prop up the Barclays Premier League table with only a solitary point from their opening four games, and will be hoping to catch Arsenal cold at Ewood Park, following the Gunners' UEFA Champions League draw in Dortmund.

Two defeats from their opening three games left Arsene Wenger's side in unfamiliar territory towards the foot of the table, but three points at home to Swansea looks to have kick-started their season.

The Gunners nearly got off to a perfect start in Europe, having led in Germany for much of the game, but were pegged back in the final minute with a wonderfully taken Dortmund equaliser.

After coming through 90 minutes of Rovers' reserve game with Wolves earlier in the week, Grella is now hoping he has put himself in contention for a recall to Steve Kean's starting line-up to face Arsenal.

Reserve team boss Gary Bowyer confirmed, "It's been a while since he [Grella] had 90 minutes and backed up with what he had last week hopefully he will be pushing on the first team door."
