Tottenham Hotspur are set to 'snap-up' Peruvian left back Horacio Benincasa after a secret trial at White Hart Lane.

The Daily Mirror claims the 17-year-old flew in to play a reserve game, and is set to agree terms before before joining at the start of the winter transfer window in January.

A move from Esther Grande de Bentin to Spurs is likely to cost Harry Redknapp a nominal fee, although issues with a work permit application could be a potential stumbling block.

The report goes on to claim Tottenham Hotspur are confirming if the player has a Spanish passport, and if so the defender would be able to join as soon as terms are agreed and the New Year arrives.

Werder Bremen are also reported to be keen on the player, but Spurs appear to have forged ahead of the Bundesliga side after scouting the player in his homeland back in March.

With Redknapp willing to test his youth in Europe, as proved last night in Tottenham Hotspur's 0-0 draw against PAOK, Benincasa could quickly find himself involved in first team activity should the move be ratified in January.
