Liverpool starlet Dani Pacheco believes things went downhill for him personally following the exit of Rafa Benitez at Anfield.
The 20-year-old Spaniard joined the Reds from Barcelona in 2007, but has only made five Barclays Premier League appearances during his time at the club.
Pacheco moved to Atletico Madrid on loan this summer, but has since been sent out to Rayo Vakkecano for the first part of his season-long deal. Atletico also have the option of signing the player permanently from Liverpool at the end of the season.
"I did not get tired of Liverpool and I hope I have not ended my time there because it is a good competition," said Pacheco.
"But with Rafa Benitez's departure I felt my progress has been held back and I wanted to go somewhere I was at ease and could show my strengths.
"There were no opportunities and that is why I have had to leave. I want to progress to do that. I needed to change."
Pacheco did enjoy a brief loan spell with Norwich City at the end of last season, impressing at Carrow Road as the Canaries gained promotion to the Barclays Premier League.
However, his opportunities under Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool appear limited, and a permanent switch to Spain could be on the cards in the future.
