Liverpool consider Agger sale and eye Arsenal defender target – reports

Liverpool are planning another raid on Eredivisie outfit Ajax Amsterdam – this time swooping for classy defender Jan Vertonghen, twelve months after convincing Luis Suarez to move to Merseyside.

According to reports in Tutto Mercato interest is strong from the Barclays Premier League, with Arsenal also recently linked with a move for the talented Belgian international.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was looking to solve his defensive frailties at the Emirates Stadium, but opted instead to sign 6ft 6in German international Per Mertesacker, who moved to north London in a deal worth around £9million.

However, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has now been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old who has drawn comparisons to a current Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.

The Reds boss is thought to be considering selling injury-prone defender Daniel Agger, who limped out of today’s Barclays Premier League defeat to Tottenham, and it is not yet known how long he will be ruled out for the Anfield club.

AC Milan have long been interested in the Danish stopper, and would likely make an offer to Liverpool, if they make it known they are prepared to let Agger leave Merseyside.
