Sheffield Wednesday have signed Derby goalkeeper Stephen Bywater on an emergency loan deal.

The 30-year-old will stay at Hillsborough until December 17 when the Owls host Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield in League One.

Bywater began his career as a trainee with Rochdale before joining West Ham aged 16 and progressed through the Upton Park youth ranks with Joe Cole and Michael Carrick.

Bywater had loan spells at Wycombe, Hull, Wolves, Cardiff and Coventry while at Upton Park and signed for Derby in the summer of 2006, winning promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2007.

The former England Under-21 goalkeeper has also had loan stints with Ipswich and Cardiff during his time at Pride Park.
