Tranmere Rovers manager Les Parry is hoping that Newcastle United striker Ryan Donaldson can return to the club, after his loan spell at Prenton Park was cut short due to injury.
The 20-year-old completed a loan move to Rovers last week, but picked up a hamstring injury on his debut against Wycombe Wanderers.
Donaldson has now returned to St James' Park to receive treatment on the injury, but Parry is hoping the Newcastle forward can return to continue his time with the League One outfit.
"Ryan has had a scan at Newcastle. We're waiting on the results of it, but it doesn't look great, it looks as if he will be out for the duration of his loan," Parry said.
"But as soon as he is fit and ready I would love to take him back. I would like to get him in again because he seemed to fit into the way we wanted to play so well."
With the likes of Nile Ranger, Peter Lovenkrands and Shola Ameobi in the squad, as well as summer signing Demba Ba, Donaldson's opportunities are Newcastle were expected to be limited this season.
The England Under-19 international spent last season on loan at Hartlepool United, but known to be a prized asset in the north-east.
