Arsenal are reportedly already making a concerted effort to ensure they sign Inter Milan winger Ricky Alvarez in January.

According to Metro, the north London club have already held preliminary talks with Inter in the hope of securing a loan deal for the 23-year-old when the transfer window reopens.

Alvarez only moved to the San Siro from Vélez Sársfield during the summer, but he has made only two appearances for the Nerazzurri during a terrible start to the season under Gian Piero Gasperini.

Inter have lost four and drawn one of their five encounters so far and, after defeat to Novara on Tuesday, Gasperini is expected to pay with his job.

Alvarez, meanwhile, had been linked with Arsenal prior to his £12 million move to Italy and, it would appear, could still join the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger is said to retain an interest in the Argentina international and the Arsenal boss is expected to conduct plenty of business when the transfer window reopens.

Arsenal have also been linked new year moves for Everton defender Phil Jagielka and Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo.
