Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez - a reported target for Liverpool - is being lined up by Chelsea to replace Fernando Torres, it has been claimed.
Gomez has been in quite sensational scoring form for Bayern this season; netting eight times in three games, including a four goal haul against Freiburg.
According to the Daily Star, Andre-Villas Boas has lost his patience with Torres and is now keen to replace him with Gomez, who is rated at £34 million.
Gomez, 26, bagged 40 goals in 44 appearances for club and country last season, and the German international is also alleged to be on the radar of Liverpool.
The Reds have seen themselves consistently linked with Gomez over the past year, even since Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll moved to Anfield earlier this year.
Gomez is said to have almost joined Liverpool under the stewardship of Roy Hodgson but reports in Germany suggested the Merseysiders pulled out of a proposed loan deal at the last minute.
Torres, meanwhile, has scored just twice in 24 appearances since leaving Liverpool for Chelsea in a British record deal.
And, despite a fine performance against Manchester United last Sunday, the Spaniard has been ridiculed for a costly miss - which has encouraged suggestions that his days in west London are numbered.
