Seasiders seal Southern deal

Blackpool midfielder Keith Southern has agreed a new one-year deal with the club.

The 30-year-old has been a long-standing member of Ian Holloway's side after joining from Everton in 2002 and his new contract will enable him to mark his career with a testimonial.

"I moved away from home at 16 and the thought of uprooting again at the end of the season was quite scary," Southern told the club's official website.

"I didn't want to go through that again because I'm settled where I live now and my little boy is going to be starting school in the next 18 months or so.

"It was really important that kept things as they were and I never really wanted to leave Blackpool anyway.

"The chairman has promised me a testimonial so he obviously thinks highly enough of me to do that and it will be quite special. To stay at a club for 10 years is quite rare."
