The re-opening of the January transfer window will see the race resume to sign Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill, according to the Mirror.
The England international was subject of interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur during the final days of the transfer window.
However, Arsenal's signing of Per Mertesacker left Tottenham as favourites to sign the defender, however a deal could't be agreed.
The sticking point between both Bolton and the North London pair was Cahill's £17 million release clause, which both clubs failed to match.
As a result, Bolton have to tempt Cahill into signing a new deal before the turn of the year, before other clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham, are free to talk to the centre-back.
The Trotters could even lose Cahill on a free transfer in the summer, if not club signs him in January.
In addition to Arsenal and Tottenham, La Liga giants Madrid are also interested, and their spending power could mean Cahill leaves sooner rather than later.
