Liverpool monitoring €35m Arsenal target - reports

Published Add your comment

Liverpool are keeping tabs on the progress of Arsenal target Mario Gotze, it has been claimed.

According to several media reports in Germany, the Reds have sent scouts to run the rule over Gotze, with a view to making a significant bid for his services in January.

Arsenal were credited with a €35 million bid for the Borussia Dortmund starlet during the closing days of the transfer window, as Arsene Wenger tried desperately to bolster his midfield ranks.

But this offer was reportedly rebuffed by Dortmund, and Arsenal instead brought Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun to the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are not thought to have made an approach for the 19-year-old German as Kenny Dalglish spent substantial sums in the summer.

But, it is alleged, Liverpool are now intent on adding Gotze to their Anfield number when the transfer window reopens, as Dalglish strives to bring Champions League football back to the club.

Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Barclays Premier League - with 10 points from six games - and face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.
