Mikel Arteta is a 'complete' footballer according to Arsene Wenger - who has been very pleased with the way he has quickly settled into life at the Emirates Stadium.

The 29-year-old Spaniard joined Arsenal from Everton for £10million on transfer deadline day, and has already made his presence felt in the Gunners side with a string of impressive performances.

Arteta played a pivotal part in the UEFA Champions League group stage opener in Dortmund, and is set to make his home debut in Europe's top-tier competition against Olympiacos tomorrow.

The French tactician says he is unsurprised by the midfielder's strong start to his Arsenal career, and points to his wealth of Barclays Premier League experience as something that has worked in his, and the team's favour.

"He is not a newcomer," said Wenger. "Everybody knows him in England. We all knew he is an excellent player. He has integrated very well into the group.

"Mikel is a complete football player - he can defend, he can attack, and is very ambitious. He wants to do well and is very professional."
