Arsenal's bid for Yann M'Vila was rejected because of Rennes' ambition to become a dominate force in French football, according to manager Pierre Dreossi.

After the departure of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, manager Arsene Wenger strived to sign a holding midfield player to bare the loss of the pair.

However, Arsenal's bid, reported to be in the region of £25 million, was rejected, and Dreossi says it proves the club are heading in the right direction.


On Arsenal's bid for M'Vila, Breossi said: "My boss told me he preferred to have a good team rather than a large sum of money.

"This team is interesting, not the budget."

Arsenal eventually opted to sign Mikel Arteta to strengthen the midfield, however, the club may elide to bid for M'Vila again in the January transfer window,
