Harry Redknapp has confirmed that William Gallas won’t play in tonight’s Europa League match with Shamrock Rovers, despite a return for the defender looking imminent.
Gallas played a full 90 minutes against Brentford in a friendly with the Spurs XI last week, and appeared close to making a first-team comeback this weekend.
But Redknapp has confirmed the bad news that the ex-Arsenal man won't be playing for the next week at least, saying that Gallas will not only be out for tonight, but also in the north London derby against the Gunners on Sunday too.
"William was looking OK to return but, just when we thought he was over his initial calf injury, he has pulled a calf muscle in the other leg," Redknapp told The Sun.
"He won't face Shamrock and has virtually no chance of playing Arsenal. It's a shame because he turned in a man-of-the-match performance against Arsenal last season."
Tottenham are desperately in need of a return from Gallas, with the side hoping to bolster their defence line as soon as possible, after conceding nine goals so far this season.
But Redknapp will be boosted by the returns of Roman Pavlyuchenko, Steven Pienaar, Aaron Lennon and Danny Rose, with the quartet finally being given the all-clear to play.
