Spurs set sights on Serbian stopper - reports

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Udinese goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic, who is currently on loan at fellow Serie A side Siena, according to reports in the Italian media.

Brkic has never played for Udinese, and with just three caps for his parent club Siena, the relative inexperience of the talented 25-year-old Serbian could be seen as something of a gamble.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has sent scouts to run the rule over the player, and by all accounts, reports back have been very favourable - which could result in a transfer to White Hart Lane.

Redknapp currently has good goalkeeping options, following the summer signing of Brad Friedel.

The 40-year-old former USA international has cemented his place in the Tottenham side, and with competition for the No.1 spot provided by Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes, the signing of Brkic would be regarded as a signing very much for the future.

Having received international recognition from the Serbian national team, Brkic has seen himself overlooked in recent months.

But with a move to the Barclays Premier League in the offing with Spurs, he would have a more realistic chance of re-establishing his place in the national squad.
