Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry to Sochaux over the availability of defender Ryan Boudebouz.

Setanta Sports claim the Gunners have made contact with the Ligue 1 side over the Algerian's availability, with £6 million believed to be the price on the player's head.

Arsene Wenger has come under scrutiny at the start of the Barclays Premier League season after the club's worst start to a campaign for 50 years.

Per Mertesacker was drafted in to strengthen Arsenal in the position this summer, but injuries to Thomas Vermaelen, John Djourou and Laurent Koscielny have exposed a vulnerable back-line at the Emirates.

The north Londoners could face competition for the player's signature in January though, with both Liverpool and Newcastle thought to be keen on the 21-year-old.

Arsenal are also looking to strengthen in a handful of other positions, with attacking midfielders thought to be an area on the Frenchman's agenda despite the deadline day additions of Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun.

Raffael, Marko Martin and Mario Gotze have all been linked with moves to Arsenal in recent weeks, and it promises to be a busy period for the Gunners in the New Year.
