Manchester United's pursuit of Everton's Ross Barkley has hit a snag with The Toffees ready to off a new £1 million-a-year deal to the midfielder, according to The Sun.
The club will offer the new contract to Barkley on his 18th birthday in December, to prevent Chelsea and United snapping up the youngster.
United in particular have been heavily linked with the youngster, with reports suggesting the club were contemplating a £20 million bid for a player who has played just five times for Everton.
After signing Phil Jones and David De Gea, United showed that they're not afraid to invest in young talent, and having shelled out £16 million and £22 million for the aforementioned pair, aren't afraid to spend big to land the stars of the future.
Untied had previously been strongly linked with Jack Rodwell, but following his loss of form during the back end of last season, the club appear to have turned their attention to a player they see a one for the future.
