Notts County's top scorer Lee Hughes has put pen to paper on a new 18-month contract at Meadow Lane.

The 35-year-old striker, who has netted six times in 12 games this season, joined County in 2009 on a free contract from Oldham.

Magpies chairman Ray Trew said: "I am delighted to have tied up this deal with Lee. I am under no illusions as to how important and how popular Lee is here at Meadow Lane, he is an icon of this football club."

He added: "Lee is a credit to Notts County, a real character around the club and a top professional.

"The fact that the negotiations were concluded so quickly and that Lee was willing to take a pay cut to commit his future to the club, only goes to show the affinity that exists between him and the club.

"For me this deal is testament to our commitment to the club and its fans and outlines our determination to continue to move this club forwards."
