Inter identify Arsenal target as Sneijder replacement - reports

Inter Milan have reportedly identified Arsenal target Mario Gotze as a potential replacement for Wesley Sneijder.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter believe the Borussia Dortmund midfielder would be the perfect successor to Holland international Sneijder.

Gotze is widely regard as one of the finest young talents currently operating in Europe, and Arsenal were credited with a bid for the Germany international during the summer.

Arsene Wenger was, however, rebuffed in his attempt to bring Gotze to the Emirates Stadium after Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri left Arsenal in quick succession.

The Arsenal boss instead bolstered his ranks with Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun, but is thought to retain an interest in 19-year-old Gotze.

Sneijder, meanwhile, has also previously been linked with the Gunners but, should he leave the San Siro, then Old Trafford would seemingly be the 27-year-old's most likely destination.

United attempted to sign the Dutch playmaker during the summer transfer window but Sir Alex Ferguson gave up in his pursuit after the two clubs could not agree a fee.

However, the United boss has been tipped to launch a renewed attempt to sign Sneijder in January.
