Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella - a reported target for Manchester United - has been told he can leave Turin in January, it has been claimed.
According to Calciomercato, Juve boss Antonio Conte is ready to offload the 28-year-old, who has fallen behind Alessandro Matri, Mirko Vucinic and Alessandro Del Piero in the pecking order.
Quagliarella only signed for Juve in the summer - having spent a spell on loan with the club last season - but has made just one substitute appearance this term.
Sir Alex Ferguson has a long-standing admiration of the Italy, and had attempted to bring him to Old Trafford prior to Quagliarella signing for Udinese in 2007.
Whether the United boss makes a renewed attempt to sign the former Napoli hitman remains to be seen, but Ferguson is said to be in the market for goalscoring reinforcements.
Reports in Portugal suggest United are pursuing Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who has scored six goals in eight appearances this season.
