Madine makes monthly shortlist

Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Madine has been nominated for the npower League One player of the month award for September.

Madine, 21, has scored six goals in five games for the Owls during September and a total of nine in 11 league appearances this season.

The former Carlisle forward, signed for an undisclosed fee last January, is one of four candidates for the award, with former Owls striker Neil Mellor (Preston), Chesterfield's Leon Clarke and Hartlepool goalkeeper Scott Flinders also in contention.
