Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan.
The Argentine international playmaker has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and reports in talkSPORT earlier in the week claimed Sir Alex Ferguson was still tracking the 23-year-old.
However, player representative Jose Iribarren has played down the interest in his client, suggesting Manchester United might be better suited looking elsewhere.
"Gaitan has still much more to give," Iribarren is quoted as saying.
“Not worth talking about the interest of this or that club."
Manchester United were linked with a handful of attacking midfielders in the summer transfer window following the retirement of Paul Scholes at Old Trafford, with Gaitan and Wesley Sneijder two high profile targets for the Red Devils.
And, whilst the club have flourished in the Barclays Premier League so far this term, Manchester United are still tipped to make a move for a player in the position in January, although Gaitan now looks like an unlikely acquisition.
