Arsenal’s £10m deadline day madness revealed

Mikel Arteta has revealed he didn’t have a medical before signing with Arsenal on deadline day, with the midfielder running out of time before the transfer window came to a close.

Arteta completed a last minute deal with the club, after talks had broken down and resumed once more. David Moyes admitted later that while Everton didn’t want to let their star man go, when he requested a transfer the deal was set up and signed within hours.

And the now Arsenal star said that when everything came together, there wasn’t time to do a medical and he had to give the Gunners his assurance that nothing was wrong.

"It was very stressful. At 6pm, they said everything had broken down. Then, at 8.30pm, everything started again,” he said.

"But there wasn't time to have a medical. I went to the offices of the club [Everton] and from there I told Arsenal to trust me and that if some medical problem was found it would be my responsibility."

Arsenal signed five players in the last 24 hours of the transfer window, as the club went into overdrive to bring fans back on side after losing to Manchester United 8-2 the day before.

And Arteta was one of the biggest signings of the transfer window for the club, going to the Emirates for £10 million.
