Rooney off as England edge through

Published Add your comment

Wayne Rooney was sent off as England clinched their place in the Euro 2012 finals despite surrendering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw against Montenegro in Podgorica.

The Manchester United striker was given his marching orders for the second time in his England career after a 73rd-minute challenge on Miodrag Dzudovic.

Goals from Ashley Young and Darren Bent put England in command before Elsad Zverotic reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time and then Andrija Delibasic levelled in the 90th minute.
