Charlton remain top of npower League One despite failing to beat Tranmere at The Valley.

Chris Powell's side have started the season well, but fell behind to an Adam McGurk goal in the 33rd minute.

The visitors peppered the Addicks' goal in search of a second, but the home side secured a 1-1 draw with 10 minutes remaining courtesy of Johnnie Jackson's penalty.

While Charlton extended their unbeaten run to 13 league games, Sheffield Wednesday closed the gap on the leaders to three points.

Lewis Buxton, Gary Madine and Ben Marshall netted in a 3-1 victory for the Owls against Chesterfield, for whom Leon Clarke scored.

Huddersfield sit a point behind Gary Megson's side in third spot after stretching their unbeaten run to 37 games.

Gary Roberts broke the deadlock just as half-time approached against Stevenage before the visitors levelled through a superb Scott Laird effort.

Lee Novak netted his ninth goal of the campaign in the 76th minute to put the Terriers back in front, but Stevenage missed a golden chance to earn a point when John Mousinho blazed a 90th-minute penalty over the bar.
