Hawley at the double for Magpies: Match Review

Published Add your comment

Karl Hawley scored twice as Notts County moved up to sixth place in npower League One with a 3-0 victory over Hartlepool at Meadow Lane.

Mike Edwards' long throws caused a host of problems in the Hartlepool defence in the first half and County opened the scoring after 29 minutes when Hawley pounced on Ben Burgess' knockdown from an Edwards throw.

Notts County continued to press and Scott Flinders in the Hartlepool goal had to be at his best to deny Hawley on two further occasions.

The Magpies maintained their dominance in the second half and stretched their lead 10 minutes after the break when Burgess headed a long ball into Hawley's path and he calmly chipped the ball over Flinders.

West Ham loanee Cristian Montano, making his final appearance for County after being recalled by the Hammers, sealed the win in the 90th minute with a fine finish from the edge of the box.
