Liverpool are set to launch a £10 million bid for Luuk de Jong, according to Metro, with the club hoping to snare the Newcastle target in the January transfer window.
De Jong has starred for both FC Twente and the Holland national side over the last season, and has drawn attention from numerous European clubs as a result.
While Newcastle have placed De Jong as second choice in their striker chase, with the Toon hoping to land Modibo Maiga for a cheaper fee, Liverpool reportedly are able to meet the Dutch side’s price tag for De Jong’s signature.
Newcastle endured a tough summer in the transfer market, with the club unable to land a striker to replace the departed Andy Carroll, who left in January for Liverpool for £35 million.
And while Liverpool have a bigger budget than Newcastle, the Toon are desperate to finally fill the hole in their forward line this January, and could be willing to show up the Reds with a higher bid than £10 million.
