City stars set for Euro showdown
Manchester City stars enjoy success around the world
Manchester City players were in action around the world over the weekend, with midfielder David Silva taking his chance for Spain in Euro 2012 qualifying Group I.
The reigning champions secured their qualification some time ago, but Vicente del Bosque gave the Citizens star a rare starting opportunity in Praha, and an assist for Xabi Alonso in the 2-0 win could lead to another appearance against Scotland on Tuesday night.
Joe Hart and Gareth Barry helped England secure their place alongside the Spaniard's in Ukraine next summer, with a 2-2 draw against Montenegro enough to seal Group G for Fabio Capello's side.
Stefan Savic played for the 'opposition', and it was a night to remember as the hosts secured a play-off spot with the draw against the Three Lions.
Nigel de Jong and Mario Balotelli will also have plans at the end of the season, although the defensive midfielder watched his Netherlands side win 1-0 over Moldova. Italy drew with Serbia, who had Aleksander Kolarov in their ranks and will need to beat Slovenia in their final match on Tuesday to make the play-offs.
Vincent Kompany scored for Belgium in their 4-1 win over Kazakhstan in Group A, but will need a result against 'perfect' Germany on Tuesday night if they are to beat Turkey into second position.
Finally in Europe, Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko will meet in a Group D showdown on Tuesday night with the winner securing qualification to the main draw. France won 3-0 against Albania and need a draw, whilst Dzeko scored the opener in a 5-0 win over Luxembourg, with victory needed in Paris to overtake Les Bleus.
Pablo Zabaleta helped Argentina move top of the South American World Cup qualifying group after the first round of matches, whilst Sergio Aguero missed the 4-1 win over Chile through injury.
