Harry Redknapp is targeting Rio Ferdinand, with the Spurs manager hoping to land the defender in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Star.
“Rio has some thinking to do concerning his future. He still has plenty of ambition and playing in America would certainly open up a new chapter in his life,” a source close to Ferdinand told the paper.
“But he respects Harry. He had a big influence on Rio as he progressed as a footballer at West Ham.”
Tottenham reportedly tried to sign Ferdinand in the last summer, but failed. And while United have long insisted that Ferdinand is a part of the side’s long term future, with the signing of Phil Jones, the defender is looking more likely to be shut out of United’s starting line up.
Tottenham are on the look out for more signings in the January window, with Redknapp admitting that the north London side didn't get all the fresh faces they wanted in the summer.
Ferdinand has struggled with injury over the past few months, but Tottenham are still hoping to get the United star on board and believe he can have a positive affect on the side both on and off the pitch.
