Manchester City coach David Platt has insisted that Mario Balotelli and Sergio Aguero being rested this weekend will not affect the team’s winning momentum.

Both strikers were injured in the past two weeks, with Aguero suffering an adductor strain in City’s 4-0 win over Blackburn and Balotelli hurting his back. The pair have missed out on playing for their respective countries during the international break as a result.

Coupled with Carlos Tevez’s suspension, any other club would be seriously concerned over a lack of strikers.

But Platt believes that with the depth that City can boast when they take on Aston Villa this weekend, notably Yaya Toure, David Silva and Samir Nasri, means they are ready to step up and show the side doesn’t fall apart with a few injuries.

“We have plenty of ways of playing, and the way we played last year we had Yaya Toure, and we have got David Silva and Samir Nasri, three who can all work off the striker as well,” Platt told the Manchester Evening News.

“A lot is being said at the moment, but let’s just concentrate on what we have available. We know we have a squad of players which means we can put a team out against anyone and make a good game of it.”

Eden Dzeko will also be available for the clash, and with the striker on form and clocking up seven goals this season, City will still be overwhelming favourites to take another win at home and keep their unbeaten run alive this season.
