Akinfenwa suffers fractured jaw

Published Add your comment

Northampton striker Adebayo Akinfenwa faces a spell on the sidelines after the club revealed he suffered a fractured jaw against Crawley at the weekend.

The injury is not as bad as initially feared, but Akinfenwa faces around two weeks out.

Town boss Gary Johnson said: "Obviously it's disappointing but hopefully he will only be out for a couple of weeks. Originally we thought he was going to be out for around six weeks so the news is a bit better than we first feared."

Johnson added: "It's not ideal but we just have to deal with it and it gives someone else the chance to come in.

"We have been looking at several options and we will do what we feel is best for the club and the team, starting at Port Vale on Friday night."
