Bale stars in Wales victory

Wales ended their Euro 2012 campaign on a high as Gareth Bale's goal secured a 1-0 win over Bulgaria and third place in Group G.

The Tottenham winger struck the decisive blow in the dying embers of the opening half, receiving the ball from Adam Matthews to cut in from the right and send a deflected shot beyond Nikolay Mihaylov.

Bale also lashed a thunderous first-time volley against the bar after linking superbly with captain Aaron Ramsey, while Ivelin Popov wasted the hosts' best chances as Wales controlled the majority of the contest.
