Wayne Rooney should be automatic choice in England’s squad for next summer’s European Championships, according to a GiveMeFootball survey.

The Manchester United striker was handed a three-match ban after kicking out during England’s final Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro.

Debate has raged over whether the 25-year-old, who will miss England’s first three group games of the tournament in Poland and Ukraine, should be selected despite his involvement potentially being limited.

However, 71% of the fans polled were adamant Rooney should be selected in England’s squad next summer adding to the thoughts of both Roy Hodgson and David Moyes, who have both supported the inclusion of the forward and condemned the lengthy ban brandished.

The Football Association are expected to appeal the decision to ban Rooney for three games, but could risk seeing the ban extended further if UEFA deem the appeal to be frivolous.

Rooney’s is universally considered to be one of the world’s best players and was expected to be one of the leading lights in England’s quest to win next summer’s European Championships.
