Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle is thrilled after striker Steven Jovetic gave the club 'a signal' following the signing of a new contract.

The 21-year-old is highly rated in Europe and had attracted interest from a number of the continent's elite.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both been linked with the forward, but Jovetic's new deal might put any chance of a move to the player out of the question.

"He (Jovetic) wanted to start a new cycle with us," Della Valle said.

"After a difficult year in which we worked closely with him, he wanted to give us a signal."

Upon signing a new deal, Della Valle said: "I'm happy to have renewed the contract," he said.

"I'll always give my best for the Fiorentina shirt."

Earlier in the year, Jovetic was heavily linked with United and Chelsea, with a new deal for the Montenegro winger yet to be agreed.

United eventually settled for signing Ashley Young, while Chelsea secure the services of Juan Mata before the transfer window closed.
