Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic knows he must continue to improve if he is to hang on to his No.1 jersey at the Britannia Stadium.

The Bosnian has been the man to beat for nearly a year now, since ousting Thomas Sorenson from between the sticks.

Begovic has been ever-present in the league since usurping the Dane, but isn't keen on resting on his laurels.

"It's always been my goal to get in the team and stay there," he said.

"But having achieved that, it's going to take a lot of hard work to keep my place because the manager won't let you get complacent.

"The more games I play, the more comfortable I feel and the more I learn. But I'm just trying to get better and help the team improve."

The 24-year-old has already kept four clean sheets this season, half as many as through the whole of last term, but the stopper says it's the results that take precedent.

"It's tough to say how many clean sheets you want because of the different opposition," he added.

"We just want as many as we can to help get the three points. But it's nice to get them because then you know you've done your job well; not just me, but the whole defence.

"You have pride and you don't want to concede goals, but at the end of the day if we win 2-1 or 3-1 that's great. Winning is the most important thing."
