Harry Redknapp has called on Roman Pavlyuchenko to show his worth and stay at Tottenham Hotspur this season, despite transfer speculation linking the striker with a move away from Spurs.

Pavlyuchenko came off the bench against Newcastle in the 89th minute on Sunday, and has reportedly been unhappy with the amount of game time he’s receiving, as Emmanuel Adebayor, Jermain Defoe and Rafael van der Vaart continue to be chosen over the Russian international.

But Redknapp believes that if Pavlyuchenko continues to fight for his place, he will be first choice at Tottenham once more.

"He's not a player that I'm looking to move,” Redknapp said.

“I like him. He's a good person, good player. I hope he can have a good season."

Redknapp argued that for Pavlyuchenko to get more game time, the 29-year-old needs to improve his form in every game rather than just producing a few stand out performances.

"He has to work hard every game. He has to be more consistent," he said.

"He didn't have a great pre-season. He hasn't shown enough this year to be in the team.

"He can score goals, and maybe if he goes on a run, gets an opportunity and score some goals for us."

But Redknapp admitted that if Pavlyuchenko insists that he wants to go in January, a deal may be struck.

"If he wanted to go and it was a good offer, then we would look at that, for sure."
