Gary Cahill is a target for Inter Milan, according to Talksport, with the Serie A giants planning a shock move for the defender in the January transfer window.
Cahill has starred for Bolton since signing with the club in 2008, and with his contract running out with the club next summer, transfer speculation is growing over where the 25-year-old will make his next move.
Arsenal were long thought to be looking at Cahill as a prospective target over the summer, and while Arsene Wenger admitted he had made a bid for the England international, it wasn’t high enough for Bolton’s liking.
But in January, Rovers will be in a more difficult position over Cahill, and if the defender refuses to sign a new contract, the club will have to sell in order to make any profit.
Per Mertesacker, Cahill’s replacement signing at Arsenal, is still finding his feet in the Barclays Premier League, but if the Gunners’ defence line continues to lag, Wenger will no doubt be looking at Cahill again in the summer.
With Inter Milan now interested, and desperate to sign Cahill in January rather than wait until June where they could get him for free and avoid his £17 million exit clause, Arsenal will have competition to contend with as they aim to bolster their squad and finish in the top four.
