Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp claims wantaway goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes still has a part to play at the club following a faultless display against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League.
The Brazilian has stated in the past that he wishes to leave the club after being demoted from No.1 at Spurs behind new arrival Brad Friedel.
But Gomes, in just his third appearance of the season, kept a clean sheet in an impressive display for Tottenham against Rubin Kazan, leading Redknapp to state that he still has a future at the club.
"He still has a big future here," Redknapp said.
"I would like to think he still has a great future here at Tottenham but he wants top play obviously and at the moment he is disappointed that Brad has come in and he is in the team, but Gomes is top class when he is on his game. He is a great goalkeeper. I was pleased for him."
Redknapp has tended to field weakened teams for the Europa League group stage, with a combination of first-team peripherals and youth players handed the responsibility to ensure Spurs progress to the latter stages.
"I will be taking a very, very young team out to Russia now for sure for the second game," Redknapp added.
"I find the competition difficult to be honest. There are so many games, so much travelling and the league is our priority."
