Queens Park Rangers beat nine-man Chelsea by a solitary goal in a feisty west London derby at Loftus Road.

The home side were in front after nine minutes following a needless foul from David Luiz on Hoops striker Heider Helgusson in the area.

Helgusson picked himself up - and fought of Adel Taarabt - to convert the spot kick, which Petr Cech managed to get his fingertips to.

Things soon got worse for the Blues as Jose Bosingwa saw red when he was adjudged to have denied Shaun Wright-Phillips a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Didier Drogba soon followed Bosingwa when he was also sent off, but this time there was no doubt about Chris Foy's decision after the Chelsea striker lunged in on Taarabt.

Chelsea, however, fought valiantly in the second period and had chances to level the scores, with Nicolas Anelka spuring a glorious opportunity.

But QPR held on to secure their first home win of the season, while Chelsea failed to take advantage of Manchester United's defeat earlier in the day.
