Andre Villas-Boas is planning a swoop for Christian Maggio, according to the Daily Star, with the midfielder starring for Napoli this season in both the Serie A and the Champions League.
Villas-Boas has reportedly long been an admirer of Maggio, and with his recent comments over emulating Barcelona’s attacking style of play, the Blues manager is hoping to buy more players who can score from any position in the next transfer window.
With 14 goals in 95 appearances for Napoli, Villas-Boas believes that Maggio has just the attacking qualities needed to create a new style of football within Chelsea’s squad.
But Chelsea won’t get the star cheap, with £17 million reportedly the asking price from the Serie A side.
Maggio’s flexibility in positions, with the 29-year-old able to play on the wing or at centre back, also make him an attractive prospect for Chelsea.
