Balotelli backs City for success

Mario Balotelli insists Manchester City have all the ingredients in their squad to become 'the very best' following their emphatic 6-1 derby demolition of neighbours Manchester United.

The 21-year-old Italian was at the centre of the action, netting twice to help condemn the reigning Barclays Premier League champions to a devastating defeat at Old Trafford.

The victory propels Roberto Mancini's side five points clear at the top of the table, a feat that Balotelli is hoping the Citizens can maintain for the rest of the campaign.

"The feeling was great," he told the club's official website. "To win a derby away at Old Trafford is one thing, but to win it 6-1, none of us knew what to say. We were really happy.

"It was brilliant. It was a great atmosphere; it was a derby, so that's what you expect. My first goal was a good goal. I'm a striker and sometimes you don't think about what you will do.

"Those types of goal, sometimes they go inside and sometimes they don't. It was on target and it was a good goal, so I was happy."

Balotelli believes that the heroics produced not only humbled their inner-city neighbours, but also sent out a message to the rest of the league that Manchester City have to be taken seriously as genuine title contenders.

"I think this win and this performance showed everyone that we can be the best," he added.

"I think yesterday [Sunday] was one of the best we have ever played together for sure."
