Fellaini close to deal

David Moyes has revealed that Marouane Fellaini is close to signing a new deal with Everton, with transfer speculation surrounding the midfielder increasing as he enters the final two years of his contract.

Fellaini joined the Toffees in 2008 from Standard Liege for a reported £15 million fee, and has starred under Moyes’ direction ever since.

But with other clubs targeting the 23-year-old, the Everton manager says he hopes a new deal can be sorted as soon as possible to tie Fellaini down at Goodison Park for the long-term.

"I think it is very close to getting done," Moyes told the Everton official website.

"The chairman and the chief exec have been working on it for a while and I've been waiting on the good news and hopefully it's not too far away. He has been a really good player for us over the last few seasons and if we can keep him it will be really good."

Everton sold Mikel Arteta to Arsenal in the summer transfer window at the last minute, and Moyes is now keen to get his top players to commit to the Merseyside club as soon as possible to avoid the same situation happening again.

Fellaini has scored one goal for Everton so far this season, taking the club through in the Carling Cup with an important equaliser against West Brom.
