Roma are plotting to raid Manchester in the January transfer window, according to Metro, with Rio Ferdinand at the top of the Serie A side’s transfer wishlist.

Ferdinand has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford of late, suffering from ongoing injuries and putting in some disappointing performances as he tries to make a comeback. In particular, his display against Manchester City left Sir Alex Ferguson disappointed.

And with the January window edging closer, United are reportedly considering offloading the stalwart for the right price.

Roma are hoping that former England manager Franco Baldini’s connection to Ferdinand from their time in the national team together can persuade the United star to settle in Italy.

And Ferdinand might be tempted, with Phil Jones looking more likely than ever to replace him in the starting line-up for United.
