Stefano Mauri's agent has confirmed that there is interest in his client from England, amid speculation Tottenham are considering a January bid for the Italian international.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who currently plies his trade in Serie A with Lazio, has been heavily linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League, but his representative Tiziano Gonzaga insists Mauri is happy in Rome.
"I cannot deny the rumours coming from England," he told Tuttomercatoweb. "I have always given to president Claudio Lotito the opportunity to deal with other clubs and then, once the agreement may be reached, to let me know.
"I think that it is unlikely Lotito would deny Stefano. Could he go abroad? It is something that could be taken into account, but he feels a major player with Lazio."
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has a plethora of midfield options in his White Hart Lane squad, so the rumours crediting him with an interest in Mauri may seem far-fetched.
But with a number of Tottenham's fringe players set for the exit door when the transfer window reopens in January, Mauri could be viewed as a value for money replacement to provide back-up to Redknapp's first-team squad.
"Mauri wants to win with the Biancocelesti jersey," Gonzaga added. "But if he get offers from abroad and the president told us to take them into consideration, we'll evaluate them.
"Mauri doesn't ask to go abroad, but we'll see if it will be offered."
