West Ham are only interested in signing El-Hadji Diouf because of the club's current injury crisis reports talkSPORT.

The 30-year-old Senegalese winger is currently in east London training with the Npower Championship outfit in a bid to win a deal.

Hammers boss Sam Allardyce, who knows Diouf well from their time at Bolton Wanderers together, has indicated that if the African ace can prove his fitness then the club would be interested in securing his signature.

Injuries to David Bentley. Henri Lansbury, and Matt Taylor in recent weeks have left the West Ham squad thin on the ground, and Diouf's arrival at Upton Park could be a short-term fix to the lack of midfield options.

"He's just training with us at the moment," Allardyce said. "It's our injury crisis that's my problem at the moment more than anything else.

"We had George Moncur on the bench [against Brighton] and he's only 17 years old.

"You need to a good squad to get to the top of this league so I'm just having a look to see what he's looking like."

West Ham currently sit in 2nd place in the Npower Championship with 24 points from their opening 13 games, as Allardyce looks to get the Hammers back to the Barclays Premier League at the first time of asking.
