Arsene Wenger faces an ‘agonising’ wait to find out if Robin van Persie will commit his future to the club, according to the Daily Mirror, with the striker still stalling on contract discussions.
Wenger said at yesterday’s AGM that Van Persie was talking to the club about extending his deal, which currently runs out in the summer of 2013.
Arsenal are very keen to not end up with another Samir Nasri situation, where the playmaker had a year left on his contract and either had to be sold by the club or walk away for free in the next year, and are hoping that Van Persie will commit to the Gunners for the long term.
But Van Persie is reportedly harbouring some reservations about the idea of committing to Arsenal, particularly after they sold Cesc Fabregas and Nasri in the last transfer window.
Theo Walcott and Andrey Arshavin will both also have their contracts run down in less than two years, and Arsenal feel that if they sign Van Persie now, it will encourage the pair to work new contracts as well.
