Sir Alex Ferguson is monitoring Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s situation at Schalke, according to Metro, with the Manchester United manager on the lookout for a Dimitar Berbatov replacement.
While Huntelaar has undergone tough spells at Real Madrid and AC Milan, at Schalke the striker is starting to really shine, scoring 16 goals in 18 appearances for the German outfit.
And United are hoping that they can make an offer for the long-term target in the next transfer window, as Berbatov considers a January exit from the club in the hopes of getting more game time.
While United have a great deal of striker options available, Ferguson is aware that with the length of the season ahead, players will need to be rotated to keep the squad as fresh as possible.
And with that in mind, United are reportedly considering offering Berbatov as part of a swap deal to get Huntelaar on board.
