Arsene Wenger believes Laurent Koscielny is demonstrating what a fantastic central defender he can become.
The Frenchman joined the Gunners from Lorient in the summer of 2010 for £9.7 million as a relatively unknown quantity to fans of the north London club.
However, the 25-year-old has established himself as one of Wenger's most consistent performers and continues to earn praise for his composed and cultured displays.
But, with Thomas Vermaelen fit once again following the latest in a catalogue of injure troubles, it remains unclear if Koscielny will retain his position in Arsenal's starting line-up.
However, one thing for certain is that Wenger regards his compatriot very highly indeed.
“I believe Koscielny is a top centre-back,” said the Arsenal boss. “He is 25, has had one year at the top level in France and is in his second year here.
“Last week as well he was top class. He goes from strength to strength. He is less impressive in his size – he is not six foot three – but he is quick, sharp and reads the game well.”
