Liverpool dealt blow in striker chase

Liverpool target Stevan Jovetic has signed a new contract with Fiorentina, according to Talksport, with the Montenegro international committing his future to the club until 2015.

Jovetic has been a star for Fiorentina since the striker signed with the club in 2008, and has become hot property across the European football transfer market.

And with Liverpool reportedly hot on the heels of the 21-year-old, the Italian side wanted to shore up their star for as long as possible, so even if he does insist on leaving the club, they can get a hefty sum for his services.

Arsenal were also said to be interested in Jovetic, but Liverpool were leading the race to sign him, with Kenny Dalgilsh willing to make a big money bid.

But now Liverpool will need to head back to the drawing board as they continue to bolster their squad in all areas, in the hopes of making the top four and challenging for trophies once more.
