Inter Milan are ready to make a sensational January bid for Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic, it has been claimed.
According to press agency Novosti, Claudio Ranieri has identified Vidic as a key signing to get Inter's failing season back on track.
The Nerazzurri are currently 17th in Serie A after winning only twice in their opening nine league fixtures of the season.
There are, then, early fears that the Italian giants could miss out on Champions League qualification come May, and Vidic is alleged to have been identified as a potential January acquisition.
The United centre-back has established himself as arguably the finest defender in Europe since moving to Old Trafford in 2006 and, last year, was linked with a move to Barcelona.
United, though, will have no intention of letting Vidic leave Manchester, and the 30-year-old is known to be happy at the club.
Elsewhere, Rio Ferdinand is also reported to be attracting interest from elsewhere, with Tottenham and Chicago Fire both credited as admirers of the England international.
